This is a busy year for the children with lots of exciting opportunities to develop their learning and foster their independence.
We have lots of activities planned which will help with the transition from EYFS to National curriculum.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Clegg
P.E is on Wednesday afternoons. Please make sure your child has their full kit in school.
Regular reading has a enormous impact on children’s learning and confidence across the curriculum. It is essential that children read at home at least four times per week to help with their blending and fluency.
Reading books are changed twice a week providing your child has a good understanding of the text given.
Homework is given out every Friday and is to be handed in every Thursday.
Spellings tests are on Thursdays so please keep your spelling folders until this day so you can practice every night. The spellings given run alongside our Read Write Inc scheme.
We have an exciting spring term ahead of us in Year 1!
This half term we will be learning about length and shape in maths.
In English we now follow the Read Write Inc scheme see below for further information. ( to follow)
In topic we will be learning about the city of London past and present. Children will get to build structures using different types of materials . We may even have our own great fire!
Read Write Inc is our new English scheme.
In your child’s group they will follow either a 3 or 5 day cycle, within this they will learn to recognise letter sounds, handwriting and comprehension.
Following the 3 or 5 day cycle children will bring home a RWI reading book which will be related to the text studied in school.
This will help children to read with accuracy and fluency.
We have had a very busy half term!
The children have enjoyed our topic Paws Claws and whiskers.
They have found out lots of information about all different types of animals and how to classify them.
We also looked at the french artist Henri Rousseau and created some fabulous art work.
Thank you again for the super enrichment homework the children bring in Mrs Clegg and myself love to see it.
We have a new topic this half term, called ‘ Dinosaur Planet’ and look forward to learning new skills and information.
Stomp, crash ,RRRAGH! Watch out everyone—the dinosaurs are on the prowl!
We will learn how to identify and name a variety of dinosaurs.
Also we will imagine that we are palaeontologists searching for fossils and new scientific dinosaur evidence.
Going back in time we will learn about Mary Anning and her great dinosaur discovery.
Our new maths topic is multiplication and division.
Children will also be looking at fractions of numbers and shapes.
In year 1 children should be able to read o’clock and half past times - we would appreciate you asking your children about the time at home. This will help your child with activities within class.
Children are continuing to follow this scheme.
They are all making great progress in their reading and writing.
Please continue to enjoy these books with your child at home.
Thank you for your continued support.
